Walking on the Llyn peninsula
We are extremely lucky to be on the Wales Coast Path and in easy reach of some fantastic walks and hikes. You'll find lots of maps and walking guides in the house, as well as some maps (or our version of maps) of our favourite local walks. We are perfectly positioned on the Llyn peninsula for visitors to be able to take advantage of all the great walks on offer and there are plenty to choose from - whether you fancy a buggy/child friendly leisurely stroll, a half day hike or a full day adventure.
There are some really useful resources online which can help you plan your trips. Here are some of our favourites:
The National Trust has some great downloadable walking maps. A few of our favourites are the walk from Morfa Nefyn to Porthdinllaen (and the Ty Coch Inn) and back, the walk to Porthor and whistling sands beach and the Porth Meudwy coastal walk from Aberdaron. They also have a nice little guide for recommendations for walks with your four-legged friends. A little further afield, the Dinas Oleu walk from Barmouth is stunning. There are so many more, we can't list them all here and this is why one visit to this extraordinary little corner of North Wales is just never enough!!
If you want to explore further afield on the peninsula without taking the car, the handy coastal bus runs twice a day shuttling walkers between Llanbedrog, Abersoch, Porth Neigwl, Aberdaron, Porthor and Nefyn. Buses run from April to early November, Thurs to Sun only. Journeys to Trefor should be pre-booked and the bus will arrive at Pen Lon Trefor, Tan y Graig Bus Stop. Pre-booked passengers can be taken to and from any place within the shaded pink area on the map. To book, or for more info and timetables please see the Coastal Bus website.
Mud and Routes is a fantastic site with lots of suggested treks on the Llyn, including some nice easy circular walks and a few more strenuous hikes. Their site has handy guides to each walk with route info and maps.
We follow Cerdded Llyn Walking on Facebook who post lovely pictorials of their walking adventures on the peninsula. The personal touch of the photos is great and it gives you a real feel for the route, along with timings and details on refreshment stops and parking.
Snowdonia Mountains and Coast has a fantastic section of circular walks from the Wales Coast Path and fabulous downloadable route guides.
Finally, if you are after more than a gentle stroll or a day of hiking check out Breese Adventures who run fabulous guided walks and charity challenges in Snowdonia.
