Barmouth

A great option for a day trip Barmouth is 1 hour 15 minutes drive from Pen Hendre, or if you fancy a real adventure you can take the train from Pwllheli and enjoy the fabulous coastal scenery. With a seemingly never ending beach, twisty cobbled lanes of the old town, lots of traditional seaside charm and fabulous independent shops, galleries and cafes to frequent there is something for everyone. Oh and did we mention the bridge! The historic landmark of Barmouth Bridge is a single-track wooden railway viaduct which crosses the River Mawddach estuary and dominates the skyline to the east of the town. Take time to walk out over the bridge for amazing views back to Barmouth, the estuary and beyond. We LOVE the home made cakes and delicious lunches in Murrays on King Edward street and can't leave without a look round the amazing collection of homeware and furniture in Pieces for Places on High Street. To complete the day trip it's easy to stop off in Porthmadog or Criccieth for some fish n chips and another beach walk.
