Greenwood Forest Park

It’s safe to say our first family trip to Greenwood Forest Park was a huge success and most definitely won’t be our last. We had different opinions on what our favourite part was. Our 4-year old rather enjoyed the HUGE water slide (lost count of how many trips up the stairs – great for my step count that day!), dad loved the toboggan run and mum (that’s me) just loved the sounds effects of aforementioned 4-year old (and accompanying 40 something year old) on the dragon roller coaster (WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE) … oh and the coconut and raspberry slice in the café wasn’t bad either!! ... Say ‘Portmeirion’ to the average person and you’ll likely end up in a conversation about a cult 1960s TV programme or someone’s fancy wedding crockery! However there is so much more to this gorgeous little village on the edge of the Dwyryd estuary just 5 minutes from Porthmadog. I have to admit that we haven’t seen a single episode of The Prisoner and so all references to large white bouncy balls and the ‘number 6’ were lost on us. That didn’t, however, dampen our enjoyment on a recent visit to Portmeirion village. In fact we are now the proud owners of The Prisoner complete series on DVD and are determined to swat up before our next visit! Portmeirion is a 25 minute drive from Pen Hendre. Sygun Copper Mine

It was a rather wet and miserable day and while looking for something to occupy our 4 (going on 40)-year old I remembered a recent recommendation for Sygun Copper Mine. The website promised an ‘exciting underground adventure’ and aforementioned 4-year old’s eyes lit up at the prospect. We threw our wellies in the car and off we headed. The mine is located 15 minutes from Caernarfon and around a 40-minute drive from our base at Pen Hendre Holiday Cottage so perfect for a day trip. We chose to drive up from Trefor via Porthmadog and Beddgelert and even in the rain the scenery was spectacular. The autumnal colours brightening up the day and providing a photo stop worthy backdrop to this stunning part of North Wales. Sygun Copper Mine is a 40 minute drivefrom Pen Hendre.
