Caernarfon

One of our favourite day trips is a bus ride (just 30 minutes from Trefor) to Caernarfon. You'll find LOTS to entertain young and old alike. Fight dragons and rescue maidens while exploring the twisty staircases and hidden turrets of the UNESCO World Heritage castle, stock up on some souvenirs in the fabulous little shops and galleries on the cobbled streets within the castle walls, let off some some steam in the two amazing play parks or take a stroll down to the marina and watch the yachts come and go. When the hunger pangs start to appear there are plenty of lovely cafes and restaurants to take your pick from. Our top recommendation is Scoops on Palace Street for the MOST delicious Dutch pancakes and yummy ice cream which is made on the premises (dragon fruit is our favourite). After lunch make some time for a bit more shopping. Lotti & Wren, a few doors up from Scoops has a fabulously quirky collection of homeware and accessories and if you are after some more traditional ware then Slate and Things on High Street has a lovely collection of locally crafted goods. If you are still in town around dinner time grab some fish and chips from Ainsworth's on High Street and wander back down to the castle walls and watch the boats coming back in from the Menai Strait. The perfect end to the day.
